Dr. Walter M. Brown, Jr. recently retired from the United States Navy Chaplain Corps (October 31, 2005) after twenty years of stellar service. His last duty station was onboard the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) where he served as Command Chaplain.  

Chaplain Brown’s military career began with his commissioning in December 1985 and continued as follows: Staff Chaplain, Naval Air Station Cecil Field in Jacksonville, FL; Command Chaplain, USS YOSEMITE (AD-19) in Mayport, FL; Assistant Group Chaplain, Marine Aircraft Group - 29 in Jacksonville, North Carolina; Chaplain Programs Manager, Navy Recruiting Area THREE in Macon, GA; Postgraduate School, Emory University, Candler School of Theology, in Atlanta, GA; Command Chaplain, Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA; Director, CREDO Okinawa/Far East, Okinawa, Japan; Command Chaplain, USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV).

Dr. Brown was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He has completed the following educational institutions: Atlanta Junior College - Associate of Arts; Georgia State University - Bachelor of Social Work; Interdenominational Theological Center - Master of Divinity; Emory University, Candler School of Theology - Master of Theology; Columbia Theological Seminary - Doctor of Ministry.  
He was ordained an Elder in the Central Georgia Jurisdiction of the Churches of God in Christ in 1977 and has conducted workshops and seminars for the church and the academy around the world. 

Dr. Brown has published an essay: Preaching, Teaching, and Counseling Values in The Navy Chaplain Magazine, He has published two sermons and one essay in The African American Pulpit Magazine: And He Took The Cup; Are Believers Merely Gazing; Moses and the Meal. He has also published two books:
Igniting Prayer’s Passion
and Power In Us,
A Book For Proclaimers and Why the Wilderness? God Sends Angels After We Go Through

He and his wife of 30 years, the former Beryl Thompson, have three children: Geoffrey Walter (29), Marcus Theodore (27), and Judith Beryl (22). 

His military Awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (Three Awards); Navy Commendation Medal (Four Awards); Navy Achievement Medal (Two Awards); Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (Two Awards); Battle Efficiency Ribbon; Fleet Marine Force Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (Two Awards); Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Two Awards); Arctic Service Ribbon; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Recruiting Service Ribbon.

Chaplain Brown’s personal interests include reading, writing, and athletics
